IBS 77 - MARK 9:33-35

Then He came to Capernaum. And when He was in the house He asked them, “What was it you disputed among yourselves on the road?” But they kept silent, for on the road they had disputed among themselves who would be the greatest. And He sat down, called the twelve, and said to them, “If anyone desires to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all.”
Mark 9:33-35


Pride. Pride. Pride. The moment I read this I was just like... “guys come on.” And instantly I also thought of myself. Because my favorite past of watching the twelve walk with Him, is how often I see myself I their failures. I can relate to this struggle of wanting to be the greatest. So often my own selfish ego wants to be known and be seen. Going unnoticed hurts. Doing something with no recognition stings. I go about and get things done just waiting for someone to notice. HOW BACKWARDS IS THAT? So often I find myself seeking to be first when I am reminded that Jesus said that the first must be last. What a beautiful life Jesus lived and serving others, He leads us by example. In seeing His life of always being okay with not being known. So much of ministry would look different if we were truly okay with being unknown and just faithfully serve Him. I am reminded of when Jesus said that we must lose our life to find it (Matt 10:25). It is so necessary. May my heart seek Him first and seek to be last. For that is truly when I will live as He did.

IBS 39 - MATTHEW 18:15

Moreover if your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone. If he hears you, you have gained your brother. Matthew 18:15 I don’t like conflict. I don’t like telling people when I feel that I’ve been wronged. It makes me afraid. I have a hard to time with people pleasing. So making someone upset isn’t something I enjoy. So going to someone if I feel I’ve been wronged is hard. For what seems like years, God has been growing me in this area. I have had a fun time in a lot of different relationships and having to deal with resolving conflict. Which hasn’t been easy. Because I know He desires for His body to live in unity. But fear cripples me from saying anything. Yet here we’ve been called to go, seek out our brother or sister, and resolve it. It’s love. That is something that has taken me a while to start grasping. IBS 71 - PROVERBS 2:4-5

If you seek her as silver, And search for her as for hidden treasures; Then you will understand the fear of the Lord, And find the knowledge of God.  Proverbs 2:4-5  You must seek wisdom. To find wisdom you must seek the Lord, for He is the one who gives wisdom and knowledge and understanding. And as we seek the Lord and learn more of Him we will fear Him, and we will begin to grow in wisdom. As psalm 111:10 says “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; A good understanding have all those who do His commandments. His praise endures forever.” We must fear Him. As I spend more and more time with God the more I realize the greatness of who He is. And the reality that He is so much bigger than I can even understand.
