IBS 4 - LUKE 8:22-25

One day he got into a boat with his disciples, and he said to them, "Let us go across to the other side of the lake." So they set out, and as they sailed he fell asleep. And a windstorm came down on the lake, and they were filling with water and were in danger. And they went and woke him, saying, "Master, Master, we are perishing!" And he awoke and rebuked the wind and the raging waves, and they ceased, and there was a calm. He said to them, "Where is your faith?" And they were afraid, and they marveled, saying to one another, "Who then is this, that he commands even winds and water, and they obey him?"
Luke 8:22-25

It is honestly funny to me how surprised the disciples were at Jesus calming the wind and waves. I mean JESUS. As I’m reading, it’s like come on guys, you’ve been walking with this guy, watching Him be Jesus. And you’re surprised He can calm a storm? These guys are like flipping out. They are SO afraid they’re gonna die and so quickly loose their faith, even with Him sleeping on the very same boat they are in. Jesus, the son of God, who is without sin. He is the the First and the Last (Rev 1:18), the Amen (Rev 3:14), the Holy One of Israel (Isa 5:24), the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, Who is and Who was and Who is to come (Rev 1:8), the Comforter (Joh 14:16), the Advocate (1 Joh 2:1). And they’re scared. It honestly baffled me. And at the same time it convicted me. Because Jesus is with me. He never leaves me. And when life starts to get hard my reaction at times is just to freak out, and on my own I start to toss bucket after bucket of water from the boat. I yell and cry out and forget to listen to His still calm voice and sometimes even after the storm has been calmed I forget to have faith. I question the storm, I question God, I question myself. Yet as He acknowledges I have little faith, He is faithful to restore me. He sees me, and sees the little faith that I have and doesn’t turn me away. But He brings me closer. He takes me deeper. And in every storm He shows me His faithfulness. That He never failed and He never will. He shows me that as I freak out in the storm He is desiring for me to trust and be at peace because He is God. He shows me how He is growing my faith. And how the storm will pass. And that He was God before the storm, during the storm, and after the storm.

Application - Today when a trial comes I will pray with Tanielle. We will pray for my faith to increase and for me to trust God.
